Budgeting for Live Las Vegas Music AND F.A.Q. Versatility – Flexibility - Variety
The Thurston Howlies can provide something for every budget. For a simple function, we can provide a basic jazz trio or jazz quartet. For larger functions we can add a saxophone, vibes, guitar, a wide range of singers, even unusual instrumentation like a Thermin! Prices vary according to number of players, hours played, location, day or week and time of year. But whatever the case, we have something to fit every budget!
In the event your venue does not allow amplified music, we can accommodate that as well as provide suitable recorded music to play in between sets. ...and yes, we travel!
We understand that planning a wedding, reception, special event or corporate function is a huge undertaking, exhausting, and can be stressful (We have been there!). Hiring a competent professional entertainment can make the process run smoother and make you smile more!
Budgeting for Live Music
Because we're a band and love to perform, we definitely encourage you to find live entertainment for your next event... But consider what other event planners have to say:

If there was no band or deejay, you probably were drawn to the flower arrangements, the ice sculpture, the cake, food, etc. You probably didn't stay very long either. You shook a few hands, hugged the bride and groom and were "outta there." While a D.J. is nice, they can be impersonal. With a live band, or any live entertainment for that matter, everyone is immediately drawn to the sound and what is producing it. Sad but true, flowers, and décor become secondary interests."

So don't forget to allow for an adequate budget for your LIVE entertainment. Think about how much you are planning to spend on the food and take that into account for your music. Folks can spend from $20 to $100 on food. So figure in at least $20 per person for the entertainment. So a party of 100 should be at minimum $2000; for 200 people it would be $4000 or more and so on. The food lasts for maybe an hour - the entertainment for three or four hours. Which are your guests going to remember most?

How much do you charge?
We can't quote rates over the internet, because every single event is unique. Please give us a call or email and we'll be glad to discuss your specific needs. And in the meantime, please read this page that explains about how to budget for live music for your next event.
Can you learn a special song for us?
I have a feeling we might already know your special song. Check our song list out and see. And if not, by all means, we'd love to learn a new song for your special event!
I want to be pretty particular about what kind of music is played, can you guys work out a specific set list in advance?
Yes, we can discuss specific songs to play for your event and get to as many as your event time allows.
I don't want to worry about the music at my wedding. Can I describe the vibe and have you guys take of it?
Absolutely! That's our specialty. We know the lounge/cocktail/retro/vintage Las Vegas vibe inside and out. We know how to create that special mood you're going for. And we are good at watching the crowd to know when to play which songs.
Can you provide an M.C. or do announcing for us? Can you announce our cake cutting, etc.?
Yes, all of our singers are also professional Masters of Ceremonies. And in the event you select a band with no singer, C.B. Howlie has worked as a professional actor (Screen Actors Guild card and all) and knows how to conduct a crowd perfectly.
We would like to make special announcements and/or presentations during our event. Can you provide a mike for us?
At every gig we will provide you with a professional P.A. system and microphone(s) and stand(s).
How long can you play for?
Most gigs are a minimum of three hours and usually average about four hours. We can play for shorter or longer if our schedule permits. Depending on how difficult the load-in is, we will show up anywhere from an hour to half hour before your event begins in order to make sure we are setup and ready to start right on time.
Can you travel?
Yes. We can travel. We can put together a budget that includes all travel and backline needs.
Is it more expensive to book you during summer or on weekends?
Live music is usually more in demand during summer, on weekends and on holidays, so yes, our rates may be adjusted accordingly.
Can you provide sets or decorations?
We are not a professional decorating company, so we recommend hiring someone to do your party decorations. However, for some special parties, we have provided things that go along with the band's theme such as kazoos or plastic flower leis for all of the guests.
